If
you're like me and stuck in a small town and in the middle
of a great book, it's hard to meet with like-minded folks
who are reading the same thing as you. It's book clubs that
I speak of. I'm sure there's stuff on Facebook and fan bulletin
boards that I could track down, but as of yet I haven't been
bothered. However Paramount's approach of to promote The
Kite Runner film by encouraging book clubs through the
film's website seems to me to be pretty unique. Plus there's
lots of swag to be had.
It
goes a little something like this: head on over to The
Kite Runner website
and start a book club. If you start a group, you're the captain.
Get 20 people in your group and you get a lapel pin. Land
50 folks and you're up for a leather book mark. One hundred
people makes you the host of a private screening in your hometown.
Clubs with 200 members gets the captain an autographed copy
of the book from author Khaled Hosseini. There's also a prize
for the most active club, which includes a trip to San Francisco
for lunch with Hosseini and tickets to the premiere.
